A global FCMG company is looking to recruit a chemical process engineer to support process improvements at their manufacturing site in Oxfordshire. Would suit a graduate chemical engineer with some experience. £25-27.5k.

Atlas Genetics are an in vitro diagnostics company near Bath. They’re seeking an organic chemist to develop electrochemically-active compounds and labeling strategies. An orgchem PhD and an interest in electrochemistry are required for the role.

VWR are looking for a sales specialist (chemical and chromatography products) to cover London and the South East. A degree-qualified self-starter with knowledge of a wide range of chemical and chromatography techniques is desired. £30-35k + car + bonus.

Alternatively, Midlands-based material science specialist CERAM is recruiting a scientific sales consultant to support their testing and consultancy services. The right candidate will generate business through opportunity and account management, have technical field sales experience and a degree. £30-40k + car + bonus.

Job Roll: 18th April

Three PhD-qualified synthetic organic chemists are required to run novel technology R&D programmes for a chemicals company in the North West. Needs experience of alkylation chemistry, fixed-bed reactors and hydrogenation techniques. £27-32k.

The Atomic Weapons Establishment– profiled last month – is now advertising for materials scientists with opportunities in radiochem, mass spec, analytical chemistry and spectroscopy. Would suit graduates (2.1 or above), PhD or experienced hires. Berkshire, salary not stated.

For those fancying a move to academia, the University of Bath is seeking a Reader in Chemical or Biochemical Engineering. A demonstration of research excellence, a growing publication record, supervision of research students and evidence of winning grants are essential. £45-53k.

A London-based consultancy serving the oil/gas/petrochem industries is looking for a thermodynamics specialist to further develop their main software program. Requires a PhD in chemical engineering, chemistry or physics and a solid understanding of thermodynamics. £25-35k.

A manufacturer of environmentally friendly cleaning products in Oxfordshire requires a senior development/project chemist to work with clients, marketing and sales. Experience with surfactant/water/solvent based chemistry, QC of raw materials and analysis to support formulation, and good communication skills are required. £25-35k.

Weekend (almost) Job Roll: 11th April

In the fight between grazing the job boards and making the most of an unseasonably sunny weekend in the UK, I’m afraid the former lost out. Here is the belated weekend job roll:

These two positions sound very similar – both being an opportunity for a graduate/post-doc to train as a technical/scientific writer for an international company in the south east. Good interpersonal and observational skills are required, as the writing output will be from direct observation or shadowing of people. The second advert also mentions experience of Operations in the oil/gas industry being an advantage.

Almac have vacancies for chemists to work at their Craigavon (synthetic chemistry) and Belfast (biocatalytic chemistry) sites. Working at this CRO, the role will involve everything from screening and optimization up to process development and production. Looks like a great opportunity, with the added bonus of 6.8 weeks holiday.

DSTL (Defence Science and Technology Laboratories) was profiled here last month as part of a series on civil service science employers. They now have 11 (count them, eleven!) two-year contracts open for graduate analysts/engineers (vacancy 23275-2) in Portsmouth, with some duties in Sevenoaks. Entrants to this graduate scheme will work in a number of teams in the Land Battlespace Systems Department. Suitable for graduates of a numerate degree subject - £23k. There’s also still time to apply for the trainee trials conducting office role detailed in the original post (Porton Down, £26.5k)

Degree in chemistry/biology/food science? Experience of food/beverage manufacture and change management? Heineken in Herefordshire needs you to be their Head of Department – Cider Production.

Finally, an agency is seeking PhDs and graduates with a 1^st/2.1 for a company in the south east to fill a number of roles: a development chemist (kilo-lab experience), an analytical chemist (recent graduate) and multiple organic chemists (various experience levels, to carry out multi-gram synthesis).

Customer services team leader: Looking for a part-time job to tide you over in Kent? This could be the opportunity for you – working 9am-1pm, Mon-Fri, providing customer care and responding to scientific product enquiries. Degree, excellent telephone manner and experience in a customer service role required. £17k, pro-rata

Technical applications specialist: Working for a Hertfordshire-based manufacturer of automated lab equipment, providing support to the European Sales network. Would suit a recent chemistry or chemical engineering graduate with willingness to travel. £20-25k

Process engineer: A position is available in the Site Engineering team of a process chemistry company in Devon. Support work programmes to improve safety and efficiency of operations; and provide process engineering expertise. Also an opportunity to liaise with suppliers to buy and install new kit. £20-30k

Manufacturing manager: Manage a team in a manufacturing environment in Hampshire. Chemistry graduate with technical knowledge (experience as a formulation or development scientist in pharma/FMCG), manufacturing management experience, and knowledge of relevant legislation required. £40-50k

Production chemists: A number of project manager positions are available at this oil & gas service provider to work in the R&D, Petroleum, Chemical or Reservoir divisions. The candidate will be recognized externally as a Production expert, manage projects of a significant size and complexity, have significant impact, wield large budgets and provide mentorship and training. An opportunity has opened up in a medical comms agency in Cheshire for a regulatory writer, paying a handsome £25-40k. Alternatively, a medical communications agency in London is recruiting an associate medical writer with some commercial experience to join them - £25-32k.

…personal care/FMCG industry? Reckitt Benckiser are advertising for an R&D innovation associate (£27-38k) and an R&D scientific services associate (“competitive” salary). The former will be implementing technology development work on the Veet product range, and requires theoretical and practical knowledge of formulation chemistry and proven project management ability. The latter is something to do with managing projects to ensure a number of tasks are carried out, including formulation development, stability testing and specification setting. If reading the advert fills you with joy, you’re probably the person for the job.

…analytical testing, GLP/GMP and validation? B-Lands Consulting (a provider of regulatory compliance services) are opening a new office in London and are looking for a chemist to deliver and validate scientific and technical aspects of REACH, biocides or cosmetics.
